Brief: The David and Lucile Packard Foundation was created in 1964 by David Packard (1912–1996), the co-founder of the Hewlett-Packard Company, and Lucile Salter Packard (1914–1987). Throughout their lives in business and philanthropy, the Packards sought to use private funds for the public good, giving back to a society which enabled them to prosper.

Thrust Areas: Conservation and science; Population and reproductive health; Children, families and communities. The foundation supports work toward these four objectives in three regions of Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and United States.

Funding Opportunity: 1. Promote and advance family planning and reproductive health on the global, regional and national development agendas. 2. Develop and share innovative models for delivering family planning and reproductive health information and services, especially those models that effectively reach young people and underserved women. 3. Address root causes of reproductive health outcomes and population growth, especially through targeted investments in the education and empowerment of girls ages 12 to 18. 4. Enhance reproductive rights, including by improving the quality and availability of safe abortion and/or post-abortion care.

Who Can Apply: The Foundation accepts grant proposals only for charitable, educational, or scientific purposes, primarily from tax-exempt, charitable organizations. It does not provide funding for projects that benefit specific individuals or that serve religious purposes.
