Research Program to Emphasize Public Health significance of Childhood Pneumonia in India

  • Objectives

 

  1. To support and catalyze suitable research projects addressing generation of critical evidence in childhood Pneumonia
  2. Pneumonia in Indian context undertaken by Indian Investigator
  3. To create and a technical monitoring and quality assurance mechanism to ensure implementation of the research proposals with highest scientific rigor and quality
  4. To facilitate scientific dissemination of the findings of the research and program/policy formulation
  5. To integrate capacity building activities for the Indian investigators for research leadership through learning-by-doing process

  • At different geographical areas of India (10 projects Combination of single site and multisite projects are being supported through this program)
  • Methods

 

This program is implemented in five phases:

  • Phase-1
  1. Program planned and framework finalized by the joint working group (JWG)
    1. Joint working group constitution, JWG Meeting, TAG Constitution

Phase-2

  1. Identification of suitable projects for funding
    1. RFA(S) announcement done , LOI screening (TAG meeting)
    2. Full proposal was selected (through proposal development workshop)
    3. HMSC review & approval (proposal refinement workshop signing of agreement for project
    4. Fund disbursement

Phase-3

  1. Monitoring of Project Progress
    1. Teleconference, site visits and progress reports
    2. Six monthly review of projects (Investigator and TAG meetings
    3. LAMP, Learning- by-doing workshops
    4. Completion of project and final reports

Phase-4

  1. Dissemination of research finding
    1. Manuscripts of journals, special issues in journal
    2. Presentation at scientific meetings

Phase-5 

  1. External evaluation of the Program
  • Expected Outcomes

 

  •  The research studies under the program shall “Assist the state and national governments to adopt appropriate strategies under RCH/NRHM program to augment and improve services with equity for preventing morbidity and mortality due to Pneumonia among under-five children in India.
