SOMAARTH – Demographic Development and Environmental Surveillance Site (DDESS)

In 2009, INCLEN established a Demographic Development and Environmental Surveillance Site (DDESS) in Palwal district, Haryana (60 Kms from New Delhi). The DDESS site is known as SOMAARTH encompassing 51 contiguous villages from three blocks with over 200,000 population

 SOMAARTH is a Sanskrit word meaning :

SOM – highest form of physical, mental and spiritual health + ARTH– money, wealth and resources = SOMAARTH – synergy between economic development, environmental changes, social changes and health of the individual, family and community

It is a cross-sectoral initiative to develop novel, innovative and real world solutions that helps to create healthier, prosperous and sustainable communities

It integrates real time geospatial surveillance to document economic, environment and demographic transitions and their interplay’s



  • With an overarching goal to improve the health of people living in SOMAARTH villages, we have established five community clinics in five localities

  • One physician (MBBS) and one nurse midwife is posted in these clinics – 9.00 AM – 5.00 PM

  • Medicines are provided at subsidized rates at these clinics
