Strategically identified researchers and stakeholders with research, academics, policy and program expertise were identified from all geographic regions of the country and invited for contribution of research ideas of interest. Thus 2064 experts from from 256 institutions across the country participated in this process between 2013 and 2015. For the first time the country has used an inclusive, transparent and objective scoring process to determine research priorities, which is also the largest of its kind in the world.
The crowd-sourced 4003 research ideas from the experts were consolidated to 373 research options. These research options were scored against five criteria (viz., answerability, relevance, equity, investment and innovation) by 2898 academicians, researchers and program managers from different parts of the country. A larger reference group consisting of eminent researchers, policy & program experts, bi-multilateral donor agency members and people’s representatives (i.e. politicians) were solicited for their opinion on the relative importance of the criteria for weightage identification. Based on the scores and weightage, a ranked list of research priorities on maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition for India is being compiled. |
